So I think the aurora borealis is simply a gorgeous phenomenon (I mean, who wouldn't agree??). I've recently really had fun embarking on a search to see how traditional artists have represented the northern lights, and here are my favorites that I've found! From abstract to realistic, I hope you enjoy these treasures:
Thank you again very much for featuring me, too! ^.^ This is a very cool feature, soo many good pieces - I feel mine can't go along with them I've never seen Aurea borealis before but I wish to see it once. I've always been fascinated by sky - it looks different every day and all the different colours are unbelievable
Oh psh, are you kidding? I loved the unique way you portrayed the northern lights--of COURSE yours belongs here!! And I so agree with you...the sky is so constantly varying and always so pretty. I really wish I were able to do more realistic paintings, because I'd do skies and sunsets and northern lights all day long! lol
This is among the most fascinating features I've ever seen. It's interesting to see how artists depict something like this in different ways and styles. This is actually something I want to paint some day, but until now, I've found the idea a bit intimidating. I've made some attempts at painting Aurora Borealis, but haven't been too happy with the results.
I just love Aurora Borealis. I grew up in Northern Finland, and saw them in real life on several occasions. It was always a magical thing to see, though, and it's something I really miss now that I live in Southern Finland. We do get Northern Lights here on occasion, but they're very rare this far south. One of my favourite memories was seeing them in August (!) at our summer cottage by a lake. With the solar maximum due in 2013, maybe we'll get to see them in more Southern locations, as well.
Oh I totally agree...I would love to paint the Northern Lights too, but it is indeed an intimidating subject. But yeah, I LOVED getting to put this feature together because in the process I discovered such variety in how they were depicted. **Sighs contentedly** Oh I love art. lol
Zomg and you've seen them in real life?? Several times?!?!? **Jealousface** Well I do hope you get them more in the south in 2013! They're pretty, so more people should get to see them!
Oh I totally agree! I just keep coming back to it an staring at all the prettiness. In other news, I just had a quick gander at your gallery and whoa!!! You've got some serious talent!! I've added you to my watch list, and can't wait to see what else you create!
